Farm experience

Where food comes from, in about three hours.

A guided morning on a working farm in San José del Cabo — for families with children, and for schools who want the lesson to happen somewhere other than a classroom.

What happens

A walk through the whole thing.

The visit follows the farm in order — from the newest chicks through to the nesting boxes and the mill where the feed is made. It is a guided walk with stops, not a tour behind a rope: children feed the birds, hold the eggs and ask the questions they actually have.

It runs about three hours including a break, and it is built for children without being dull for the adults who came with them.

The route

Seven stops.

  1. The chicks

Newly hatched and few-month-old birds — usually where the morning starts, and where it is hardest to move anyone along.

  2. The growing area

How a chick becomes a bird, and how long that actually takes.

  3. Laying hens and breeding birds

Meeting the flock that produces the eggs, and seeing how they live under the trees.

  4. Collecting eggs

Hands into the nesting boxes. Every child leaves with eggs they collected themselves.

  5. Feeding the birds

Feed in hand, birds underfoot. Reliably the loudest station of the day.

  6. The mill

Where we make the feed, and what actually goes into it.

  7. Animal care

How the birds are looked after day to day, and why it changes how the food tastes.

Families

Family visits

Small groups, by appointment, most suitable for children old enough to walk the farm and handle an egg carefully — roughly four and up, though younger children come along with their families all the time.

The egg-collecting experience is 30 eggs for $300 MXN — you walk the nesting boxes, gather them yourself, and take the lot home.

Schools & groups

School programme

A structured programme for schools and institutes: an interactive welcome, the guided route through the farm, a question-and-prize round, lunch, and time in the park before the group photo.

Students learn the life cycle of the birds, where eggs and poultry come from, what natural feed is, and how the animals are cared for. Printed support material goes home with them, along with a dozen eggs each that they collected themselves.

$550 MXN per student, including the guided visit, feed for the birds, the prize round, lunch, use of the park and the eggs each child takes home.

Before you come

A few practical things.

It is a working farm: closed shoes, clothes that can get dusty, sun protection and water. There is shade under the mango trees and drinking water on site throughout.

Tell us in advance about food allergies, dietary restrictions or anything a child needs particular attention for, and we will plan around it. School groups get a short preparation checklist by message once the date is confirmed — it covers insurance, final numbers, arrival times and medical information.

Visits are by appointment only. We send exact directions when your booking is confirmed.
